3 November 2012: Herschel Museum and Fireworks

SATURDAY
The sun pushing through the overcast sky. A man making a delivery.
Visited Sally Lunn's again and tried today's free sample of buns that were cover in lemon curd.
The streets of Bath were crowded, as usual. I overhead a little boy say to his mum, "It is such a beautiful day."
William Herschel Museum. Herschel was born in Hanover, Germany in 1738, moved to England at 17, then found his way to Bath in 1766 where he played the organ at the Octagonal Chapel. While his first passion was music, by 1773, he began growing keen of astronomy. The museum is situated in the townhouse where Herschel lived when he discovered Uranus in 1781.
Astrolabe (instrument used to calculate the position of celestial bodies). Brass Drum Orrey.
One of Herschel's journals.
19th century clock. Auditorium that played a bibliographical video of William Herschel.
Shopping at Morrison's. Keep Calm and Celebrate.
American Hot. Selling fireworks at the grocery store in anticipation for Guy Fawkes Day.
Just after 8pm, a public firework show on the rugby field started. Several houses down from where I live I had a nice view of the spectacle. I was quite impressed with the display, which is to commemorate Guy Fawkes Day on November 5th. Guy Fawkes was one of the conspirators in 1605 that intended to blow up the English Parliament to assassin King James I who was protestant. Originally, the observation of "Guy Fawkes Day" was an act of thanksgiving and people celebrated the king's escape from death with bomb fires.
